The Iria is a rite of passage from girlhood to womanhood, found amongst the Ijaw tribe of Nigeria.
This documentary has focused on the type of Iria carried out by the Okrika people. It follows the journey of one Iriabo, through her we enter the world of the eight girls who participated in the year 2024.
Over the span of a month, we followed and documented the Journey, we watched as they transformed in body, built their charisma, and perfected their dance steps.
The girls who entered the fattening room as young girls are now women. Are they really equipped with what it means to be a woman?
Our documentary provokes conversation on the beauty of our culture, its sentimental, spiritual, and social values to the indigenous peoples, and its possible review of parts that may no longer serve us.

Tradition in Transition follows Akwete Ikaki, one of Nigeria's oldest handwoven textiles, exploring the cultural significance, economic struggles, and fight to preserve the craft as machine-made imitations threaten to replace it.
